Western United Advances to A-League Men Final
In a thrilling match that went down to the wire, Western United and Melbourne Victory played to a 2-2 draw in the A-League Men semi-final on March 14, 2024. The result saw Western United advance to the grand final after a dramatic penalty shootout.
Western United took the lead twice in the match, but Melbourne Victory fought back on both occasions. United's first goal came in the 25th minute when Connor Pain converted a penalty. Victory equalized in the 35th minute through a header from former United player Tomi Juric.
United regained the lead in the second half when Aleksandar Prijovic scored in the 65th minute. However, Victory once again found a way back into the game, with a goal from Marco Rojas in the 75th minute.
The match went to a penalty shootout, where Western United prevailed 4-2. United goalkeeper Jamie Young was the hero, saving two penalties to send his team to the grand final.
Western United will now face either Sydney FC or Adelaide United in the A-League Men grand final on April 12, 2024.
