Canadian Tennis Star Leylah Fernandez Has Reached The Final Of The Hong Kong Tennis Open Her First Wta Final Since Winning The Monterrey Open In March 2021

Leylah Fernandez makes tennis final in Hong Kong, ending 19-month drought

Canadian tennis star Leylah Fernandez has reached the final of the Hong Kong Tennis Open, her first WTA final since winning the Monterrey Open in March 2021.

Fernandez defeated Qinwen Zheng of China 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals on Saturday, setting up a clash with top-seeded Daria Kasatkina of Russia in the final on Sunday.

The 20-year-old Fernandez has been in impressive form in Hong Kong, dropping just one set en route to the final. She will be looking to capture her second WTA title and end her 19-month drought on Sunday.

Fernandez's victory over Zheng was her third win over a top-20 player in the tournament, having previously defeated Belinda Bencic and Karolina Pliskova. The Canadian has also won 11 of her last 12 matches, a run that includes a title at the Korea Open in September.

Fernandez will be aiming to continue her strong form in the final against Kasatkina, who is ranked eighth in the world. The Russian has won two WTA titles this year and will be looking to add a third to her tally in Hong Kong.
